This is the view from my garage. When I am working in it I can hear sheep bleating on that hill. I smile every time I hear them.

Recycling

This is how we recycle in Oregon. There is no County or City trash pickup. Private companies do it. We pay $10 a month for a one can pick up. No green can, no recycle can. But there is a recycle center in Winston. A few wooden sheds where you put your plastic, paper, glass, etc. A local charity that helps developmentally disabled folks comes and cleans up the place once in awhile. You don't realize how much plastic and paper you use until you are responsible for it yourself.

The Roseburg Blast

Roseburg's claim to fame is "The Blast" In August 1959 a truck loaded with several tons of explosives was parked and left unattended by the driver. Unfortunately it parked in front of a business which caught on fire. Of course the truck exploded killing firefighters and leveling much of downtown Roseburg. Today there is a monument and walking tour of the area.

We went to Seven Feathers Casino today with my brother Robbin to see a Patsy Cline and Elvis Tribute show. The Elvis impersonator was a really good singer. We had dinner in the buffet afterward. I highly recommend Umpqua brand ice cream. It's so creamy. I had huckleberry hazelnut ice cream for dessert.

Alexanders is the one and only Greek restaurant in Roseburg. They have very good and very big gyros. I am not so sure about the rest of the menu, the Greek salad was good but then it's only a salad. We have not tried anything else. We will go back again for the gyros. I don't know if it's my imagination but the prices in some of these restaurants seem higher than they should be.

This is what we moved to Oregon for-rain. We have had rain off and on for several days now. We love it.

Roseburg Restaurants

The Roseburg restaurant scene is limited compared to the big city, There is no fine dining to speak of.
But we have found a few places that have good food. Loggers Tap House has excellent pizzas. We're especially fond of the "spotted owl", a garlic chicken pizza. The also have a unique dish, a pulled pork egg roll which is really good. For the beer fancier, they've got many on tap.

A house is not a home until you make it your own. We have started remodeling to make our new house into a new home. We've been working on the bathrooms for the last few days. We painted the walls crisp celery green and the cabinets traditional leather. Next step will be new flooring.

Bandon

Bandon is a picturesque little town on the Oregon coast. The old town has charming shops and restaurants. We stopped into a candy shop called Cranberry Sweets. There were lots of free samples. Our favorite was lemon meringue candy.
